VW Amarok V6 580S confirmed for June
Limited to 200 units nationally, the V6 580S will arrive priced from $70,990 + ORCs, placing it between the V6 Highline ($64,990) and V6 Ultimate ($72,990) in the local lineup.
The ‘580’ part of the model name refers to the 580Nm produced by the 3.0-litre turbo diesel V6 (unaltered from the highest tune already available on other Amarok grades), while the ‘S’ presumably refers to the special equipment that comes standard on this grade.
That equipment includes a body-coloured sailplane-style sports bar, a roof mounted light bar with two 86-watt LED lamps and a premium roll-top tonneau cover. Bi-Xenon headlights and LED DRLs are standard, as are 20-inch ‘Talca’ alloy wheels in black.
Carbon Steel metallic paint is a new exterior colour and one of three available for the V6 580S, with the others being Candy White and Deep Black pearl. Choose Carbon Steel and you get matte black exterior door handles, while body-coloured door handles are standard with the other two paint options. Inside, the V6 580S adds ‘Art Velour’ cloth seat upholstery and black trim for the pillars and headliner.
Other standard interior features, not exclusive to this grade, include heated seats, the Discover Media audio and sat nav system with a 6.33-inch screen and 6 speakers, App Connect for Apple CarPlay/Android Auto compatibility, Bluetooth, a multi-function leather-trimmed steering wheel and Climatronic air con. Multiple 12V outlets (including one in the tub), powered/heated exterior mirrors, four tie-down points in the tub and a multi-function instrument display are also standard.
The unaltered engine spec means 190kW and 580Nm maximums from the TDI580 turbo diesel V6, with combined cycle fuel economy of 8.9lt/100km. The 8-speed auto and VW’s 4MOTION four-wheel drive system are also unaltered compared to other upper-tier Amarok model grades.
In terms of off-road abilities, the approach, departure and breakover angles are 28.6, 23.6 and 23.0 degrees, respectively, with a 192mm ground clearance and 500mm wading depth. Underbody engine protection is standard, but fuel tank protection is extra, while the standard Bridgestone Dueler H/P 225/50 R20 tyres are highway-spec, not off-road.
Listed payload of 843kg and towing capacity (braked) of 3500kg are both on a par with other Amaroks, but the towbar and wiring kit are extra-cost accessories.
From the June launch, the Amarok V6 580S will be available to purchase through dealerships as well as online, backed by a 5-year/unlimited km warranty, capped price servicing and optional service care packs. Contact your VW dealer for more details.
