Jaecoo has added the ‘J5 Hybrid’ to their Australian range, offering a well-equipped alternative to their petrol, EV and other hybrid SUVs. Available in a single ‘Summit’ specification, the J5 Hybrid is in Jaecoo dealerships now, priced from $34,990 drive away.
Visually, the J5 Hybrid is similar to the petrol model, but gains 18-inch ‘Aero’ alloy wheels as standard. Other standard equipment includes LED DRLs, a fixed panoramic glass roof, 360-degree camera, 8.8-inch LCD instrument display and 13.2-inch LCD centre console screen. There’s also Wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and Intelligent Voice Command functionality.
Comfort and convenience features include ambient lighting with selectable colours, front door acoustic glass, wireless phone charging, a power tailgate, and heated and ventilated front seats. Seat trim is in a synthetic leather that Jaecoo describe as “pet friendly”. The silicone-based material is antibacterial and wear-resistant, making it not only durable, but also easier to clean.
Power for the J5 Hybrid comes from the next iteration of Jaecoo’s Super Hybrid technology, utilising a series-parallel hybrid powertrain instead of a plug-in hybrid system like the J7 and J8 SHS. Combining a turbocharged 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine (105kW/215Nm) with a Permanent Magnet Synchronous electric motor (150kW/310Nm), this hybrid system delivers total output of 165kW/295Nm.
Power is sent exclusively to the front wheels through a dedicated Hybrid Transmission. Fuel usage is rated at 5.6lt/100km on the combined cycle while emitting 126g/km of CO2.
Active and passive safety features start with seven airbags and include a full suite of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems, like Forward Collision Warning, Autonomous Emergency Braking, Adaptive Cruise Control, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Collision Warning, Blind Spot Sensor with Active Assist, Driver Attention Detection, Lane Departure Warning, Emergency Lane Keeping and more.
Convenience tech includes front and rear parking sensors, front/rear/side cameras, side door exit warning, traction control, hill descent control and a hill holder.
