Subaru are touting the efficiency of their all-new Forester Hybrid, following independent testing conducted by the Australian Automobile Association (AAA) under real-world conditions as part of the Federal Government’s Real-World Testing Program.
Assessing vehicles in everyday Australian driving conditions, the program aims to provide motorists with valuable additional information alongside the regulated, laboratory-tested fuel consumption figures provided by manufacturers across the automotive industry.

Testing of the Forester Hybrid, conducted by the AAA on public roads around Geelong, Victoria, recorded figures of 4.9lt/100km1 for urban driving and combined (urban/rural/motorway) fuel consumption of 5.5lt/100km1 – 12 per cent lower than the model’s official combined cycle laboratory figure of 6.2lt/100km.
Scott Lawrence, General Manager, Subaru Australia, said the result reinforces the Forester Hybrid’s performance in conditions that matter most — everyday Australian roads.
“We have always believed the real proving ground for any Subaru vehicle is out on the road, in the kind of driving our customers do every day,” Lawrence said.
“For the all-new Forester Hybrid, it’s particularly pleasing to see it deliver such a strong independently verified real-world result, providing customers with an additional perspective on how it performs in everyday Australian driving conditions.
“[The AAA testing] reinforces the efficiency of Subaru’s latest strong hybrid powertrain, which delivers that economy while retaining the confidence, capability and Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive performance synonymous with Subaru.”

The Forester Hybrid combines a 2.5-litre Boxer four-cylinder engine with a 90kW electric motor and 1.1kWh lithium battery pack for a combined output of 145kW. This combination is matched to an eight-speed CVT and Subaru’s signature symmetrical all-wheel drive.
Available in standard, Sport and Touring trim levels, list pricing for the Forester AWD Hybrid starts at $46,490 (+ ORCs).

For a limited time, the Forester Hybrid is available with a factory towbar for $750 fitted – a saving of more than $460 on the regular price - allowing customers to utilise the SUV’s 1200kg braked towing capacity for adventures off the beaten track. - Real-world testing results are provided by the Australian Automobile Association (AAA) as part of the Australian Government's Real-World Testing Program. The Forester Hybrid was tested in the Geelong region of Victoria between 29 and 30 April 2026 over a 92km route, in dry conditions with winds of 6 to 16 km/h and temperatures of 19 to 24 degrees Celsius, using 91 RON unleaded petrol. Official fuel consumption and CO₂ emissions figures are measured in accordance with the Australian Government's regulated standard, Australian Design Rule (ADR) 81/02, and published on the Green Vehicle Guide (greenvehicleguide.gov.au). These regulated figures remain the industry benchmark. Real-world testing provides additional information only, and results may vary depending on individual driving conditions including traffic, road environment, driving style, vehicle load, fuel quality and climatic conditions. Figures are correct as at the time of publication.
