Toyota announce HiLux special editions
Fresh from its victory as Australia’s top-selling vehicle for the second year running (see separate News item), the already broad Toyota HiLux range is set to expand with the arrival of three special editions.
Offering mainly cosmetic upgrades over the standard HiLux, the upcoming variants - ‘Rogue’, ‘Rugged’ and ‘Rugged X’ – also bring new equipment and capability, according to Toyota.
Full specs and features are still to be revealed ahead of the variants’ arrival in Q2, but Toyota says each brings a number of new features that continue the HiLux’s “unbreakable” tradition.

The HiLux Rugged is the “entry level” version of the three, and is aimed at off-roaders. Standard features include a premium steel bullbar, snorkel, wheelarch flares, door rub strips, sports bar, side steps, alloy wheels, modified grille and a bonnet decal.
The Rogue is pitched as a premium vehicle – Toyota says it sits above the current top-of-the-range SR5 HiLux – with its own grille design, reshaped front bumper, modified foglamps, special alloy wheels, sports bar and a hard tonneau cover. With its lack of off-road kit, the Rogue is more “urban” than the other two specials.

Also sitting above the SR5 is the Rugged X, which takes a number of features from the Rugged, but adds a distinctive, winch-compatible front bumper with integral light bar, as well as an alloy bash plate with recovery hooks. Toyota says both the bumper and bash plate are compatible with the vehicle’s airbags and safety systems.
"These new vehicles will enable (HiLux buyers) to make a statement with advanced toughness, added capability, practical comfort, first-class safety and the in-built strength that makes HiLux the indisputable No. 1," said Toyota Australia's vice president sales and marketing Sean Hanley.
Full specs and pricing on the 2018 HiLux Rugged, Rogue and Rugged X will be announced closer to local release.
