Suzuki Australia has confirmed that a five-door version of the Jimny 4x4, revealed in early January, will be coming to Australia later this year.
Officially unveiled at the 2023 Auto Expo India (where this 4x4 will also be built), the five-door Jimny is 505mm longer overall, with a 340mm longer wheelbase. Despite this, the five-door remains a four-seater, but presumably with more leg room, especially for the rear seats.
The five-door will run the same drivetrain as the three-door Jimny, which means a 75kW/130Nm 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine, choice of four-speed automatic or five-speed manual transmissions and a part-time four-wheel drive system with low range.
While full specifications have yet to be revealed, Suzuki Australia state that upgrades have been made to the interior. This likely refers to a larger 9.0-inch centre console touchscreen and wireless Apple CarPlay Android Auto connectivity seen in Indian market data. The Jimny three-door’s infotainment screen is 7.0 inches with wired connectivity.
Whether these upgrades will apply to both the Lite and GLX grades – and indeed whether the five-door will be offered in these grades at all - is unknown at this stage.
“With the launch of the all new Jimny 5 Door, we’ve given Jimny enthusiasts exactly what they’ve wanted for so long - an Extra Large Jimny!” said Suzuki Australia General Manager – Automobile, Mr. Michael Pachota.
“Jimny has built an absolute cult following in Australia and will only continue to grow with a new breed of followers that need the extra space. The launch of this new variant will only add to this model’s iconic status and will continue to be one of the most loved 4x4’s in the country.”
Suzuki Australia says more details on the Jimny five-door 4x4, including full specification and pricing, will be provided closer to local release, which is expected to be Q4, 2023.
