Next gen Kia Sorento previewed
Longer (4780m +95mm) and lower (1685mm -15mm) than the version it replaces, the third-generation Sorento also features an 80mm longer wheelbase (2780mm) to deliver increased interior space for all three seat rows.
Described by Kia as "bold" and "swept-back," with "sophisticated surface detailing," the upcoming Sorento's styling has more than a touch of Jaguar about it, especially in the front end. Hardly surprising, given Kia are trying to push the Sorento, along with the rest of their range, into the premium territory occupied by the European marques.
Styling uses elements from last year's Kia Cross GT concept, but Gen 2 Sorento features, like the long bonnet and wide D-pillars, are continued. The Jaguar-esque front end features what Kia call a 'tiger-nose' grille and long swept-back headlamps. The lower roofline, higher waistline and more rounded surfaces give the upcoming Sorento what Kia calls a "dramatic" appearance.
Led by Kia's Namyang design studio in Korea, the Sorento's revamp also had input from Kia's German and American design studios.
Soon-Nam Lee, Vice-President of Overseas Marketing, Kia Motors Corp., said, "While we have retained the name based on the tremendous success of the outgoing model, the all-new Sorento has been completely redesigned and re-engineered, and promises to surprise customers with its thoroughly updated styling, a host of new convenience and safety technologies, as well as enhanced space, driving comfort and handling response."
The all-new Kia Sorento will be showcased in Korea in late August and make its world motor show premiere at the 2014 Paris Motor Show on October 2.
