New colour and wheels for Toyota FJ Cruiser
A surprise success since its introduction to the Australian market in 2011, more than 7,000 FJ Cruisers have been sold here - twice the number Toyota predicted. This equates to sales of around 200 nationwide a month.
To keep interest fresh in the FJ Cruiser, Toyota has announced a new colour - Retro Blue - which is inspired by the colour available on the FJ40 LandCruiser (the FJ Cruiser's inspiration) and brings the total available paint options to six.
In conjunction with this, a new design of 17-inch alloy wheels has also been released.
Mechanically, the FJ Cruiser is unaltered, using the same 4.0-litre V6 petrol engine producing 200kW and 380Nm. Transmission is also unaltered - the five-speed automatic the 4x4 debuted with.
Since introduction, a few mechanical tweaks have been made, most notably to the suspension and steering to make it more suited to the bitumen that the vast majority of FJ Cruisers do their driving on. Noise, vibration and hardness levels were also reduced.
Despite this, the FJ Cruiser still retains an impressive degree of off-road ability, with its 224 mm ground clearance, 36-degree approach/31-degree departure angles amongst the best of any Toyota 4x4.
The FJ Cruiser also has CRAWL Control^ for added off-road driving competence plus fuel capacity of 159 litres for an extended driving range (notional range of almost 1,400km at 11.4 litres/100km claimed economy).
"Motoring enthusiasts love the FJ Cruiser because it inherits the DNA and pays homage to several of the most compelling stylistic themes of the original LandCruiser FJ40," said Toyota Australia's executive director sales and marketing Tony Cramb.
Cramb added that the FJ Cruiser's success is due to its off-road prowess, suitability for everyday driving and flexibility for all types of activities.
Pricing for the FJ Cruiser remains at $47,990 MRLP**. Metallic paint is a $475 extra.
The FJ Cruiser is covered by Toyota Service Advantage capped-price servicing at a maximum of $210 per service#.
^Crawl Control is a driver assist technology and should not be used as a substitute for safe driving practices. The area into which the vehicle is to be driven must be visually monitored by the driver.
