It will be offered as the xDrive35i (petrol) and X6 xDrive35d (turbo-diesel). The X6 diesel is equipped with BMW's variable Twin Turbo inline six diesel, that produces 210kW. Both vehicles will have all-wheel drive and dynamic performance control, which varies the torque at each side of the axle to assist stability.

The Renault Koleos goes into full production in October. It is based on the same platform as the Nissan X-Trail and is set to become Renault's best seller when it comes on board. Renault say the Koleos is a serious all terrain vehicle that has all the comfort of a premium passenger vehicle, with substantial off road ability.It can run in two or four-wheel drive mode, with electronic distribution of torque as required. It is equipped with ABS, Emergency Brake Assist and ESP, Hill Start Assist and Hill Descent Control. It is powered by a 2.0-litre CRD turbo-charged diesel engine, mated to a six-speed manual transmission.

This is Mitsubishi's "clean and green" SUV, which uses a host of environmentally friendly technologies. The interior uses material made from bamboo and other plant based resins. It is powered by a 1.8-litre diesel engine, mated to a twin clutch sportronic shift transmission.

The Tiguan is a compact four-wheel drive that will shortly be launched in Australia. Priced from $33,990 for the 125TSI 6 speed manual, the Tiguan is available in six variants, with the top of the range 147TSI 6-speed auto priced at $42,990.

It features a full compliment of safety equipment, including ABS, EBD with Brake Assist, ESP, front and side curtain airbags, 16-inch alloy wheels, cruise control and much more.

Audi's Cross Coupe quattro concept has the dynamics of a sports car with the versatility of a four seat SUV. Equipped with 20-inch wheels it certainly looks the part. It is powered by a four-cylinder TDI CRD turbo engine and has all-wheel drive. Based on the success of the larger Q7, this smaller version could be destined for success.

Land Rover's second only concept vehicle is a premium 4x4. It is powered by a turbo-diesel hybrid powertrain and features full-time four-wheel drive and Terrain Response.
