Mitsubishi preview upcoming SUV concepts
Described as previews of future design languages for the Japanese brand, two of the concepts are SUVs, with Mitsubishi describing the third as an MPV. All three are also described as previewing next-generation technologies, environmental responsibilities and off-road performance, in line with the company's @earth philosophy.
GC-PHEV
The first of the three concept vehicles is the MITSUBISHI Concept GC-PHEV, a next-generation full-size "Grand Cruiser" SUV that uses a high output PHEV (plug in hybrid electric vehicle) system. With genuine SUV off-road capability and sure-footed driving dynamics thanks to Mitsubishi Motor's S-AWC (Super All Wheel Control) integrated vehicle dynamic control system, Concept GC-PHEV also features next-generation preventative safety features and driver support technology through mobile network connectivity.
XR-PHEV
Alongside the full-size SUV concept is the Concept XR-PHEV, a next-generation compact SUV, or what Mitsubishi refer to as a "Cross Runner".
The XR-PHEV uses a lightweight and super-efficient version of the PHEV system from the GC-PHEV, but combines it with agile driving dynamics and sports coupe styling.
AR
Mitsubishi's third show car - the Concept AR (Active Runabout) - is a next-generation compact MPV (multi-purpose vehicle) that combines the practicality and mobility of an SUV and occupant space of a traditional people mover. Powered by a fuel efficient small capacity direct-injection turbocharged engine, the MPV concept is designed with a cocoon-like interior and seating configuration that delivers superior comfort for all passengers.
The 43rd Tokyo Motor Show runs from November 23 to December 1, 2013.
