Aimed at meeting market demand for premium dual cab utes, the ‘LS-T’ is the new hero model in the D-MAX range, inspired by the similar model grade offered on the MU-X. Available in 4x2 and 4x4 versions (with list pricing of $46,900 and $54,700, respectively), standard LS-T features include 18-inch wheels, Highway-Terrain tyres and sat nav, while the 4x4 version also gets a remote entry and start system.
The LS-T engine is the same as the rest of the D-MAX range; Isuzu’s 3.0-litre 130kW/430Nm turbo diesel, but this premium variant is only available with a 6-speed automatic. Inside, the D-MAX LS-T features genuine leather accented seats, leatherette trim on the seats, dash, glovebox and armrests, plus chrome door handles and gloss black trim for the air vents and window switches. A pair of USB outlets are also included, with this feature added to all D-MAX grades, while the LS-M and LS-U variants also get the premium model’s soft-touch leatherette trim.
Reflecting the D-MAX’s move upmarket and also acknowledging the fact that more and more of these dual cabs are being used as daily drivers, Isuzu has modified the leaf spring rear suspension, dropping two leaves - now 3 instead of 5 – and employing lighter and stronger materials to deliver what’s said to be an improved (ie. softer) ride and handling, along with increased occupant comfort. Despite a softer, lighter suspension package, payload capacity is unchanged and Gross Vehicle Mass (GVM) has improved. The GVM on 4x2 models is now rated to 2,950kg, while on 4x4 versions it’s raised to 3,050kg. The gains of 100kg in both instances comes thanks to what Isuzu calls a “reassessment” of the capacity of the entire MY18 D-MAX range.
Customer feedback has led to the addition of Trailer Sway Control (TSC) across all D-MAX variants excluding the 4x2 low-ride SX single cab-chassis manual, with a rear bumper and reversing camera now standard on all ute variants and optional on cab-chassis models. The MU-X range also gets TSC, while both MU-X and D-MAX add new colour options for 2018: Magnetic Red Mica for the MU-X; and Magnetic Red Mica, Cobalt Blue Mica and Graphite Grey Metallic for the D-MAX. Finally, service intervals have been increased on the both MU-X and D-MAX, with a 5-year/75,000km capped price servicing program part of the Isuzu UTE Australia Service Plus Program which also includes a 5-year warranty and 5 years Roadside Assistance.
