All-new Peugeot 3008 arrives
With a raft of improvements and genuine SUV styling for the first time, Peugeot’s all-new 3008 has arrived. Available in Active, Allure, GT Line and GT trim levels, all bar the GT are powered by a 1.6-litre turbo petrol 4-cylinder engine, matched to a 6-speed auto transmission. This combination produces 121kW and 240Nm, with a listed fuel consumption of 7.0lt/100km on the combined cycle. The GT gets a 2.0-litre turbo diesel four with 133kW and 400Nm. Featuring a stop/start system, this is also matched to a 6-speed auto, with combined cycle economy of 4.8lt/100km.
Reflecting the growing “urbanising” of the SUV, the medium-sized 3008 will only be offered in 2WD form; AWD can’t be had, even as an option, but Peugeot claims the optional ‘Grip Control’ mud-snow tyre and wheel package allows for light off-road work. Electro power-assist steering is common to all variants, as is independent front suspension, and a semi-independent rear. The petrol-engined 3008s have a meagre 600kg braked towing rating, while the diesel is better at 1700kg.
The main fanfare around the latest 3008 concerns the inside, with the new version getting Peugeot’s i-Cockpit, which consists of a 12.3-inch “head-up” digital instrument display for the driver, matched to a compatible steering wheel and 8.0-inch central touchscreen. To this, the GT-Line and GT add configurable ambient interior lighting. Bluetooth, DAB radio, 3D satnav, smartphone mirroring and charge pad are all standard across the range, as are front and rear parking sensors, but the Active misses out on park assist.
Fabric seats are standard across the range, with the GT adding alcantara, while leather seats are optional, but leather trim is used for the steering wheel and gear lever trim. Safety technology is comprehensive and spread throughout the range, with only the functions like radar-assisted EBA, active blind spot detection, active lane keep assist and adaptive cruise control limited to the upper two grades.
All grades except the Active also get a 360-degree camera and keyless entry. Pricing starts at a competitive $36,990 for the 3008 Active, rising through $39,490 for the Allure, $43,490 for the GT-Line and $49,490 for the GT (+ ORCs). See your Peugeot dealer for further details.
