5-star ANCAP rating for new Korando
Launched with Limited Edition models that carry a high level of active safety technologies, standard features on the five-seat mid-sized Korando include Autonomous Emergency Braking, Lane Departure Warning, Lane Keep and Lane Change Assist, Blind Spot Detection, Adaptive Cruise Control, Rear Cross Traffic Alert and Front Collision Warning.
Front and rear parking sensors, a reversing camera, seven airbags, Driver Attention Alert, High Beam Assist, ESP and ABS are standard, too.
The ANCAP 5-star result makes the new Korando the first locally-delivered SsangYong model to receive the maximum safety rating.
“This is a fantastic endorsement for SsangYong and its all-new medium segment SUV,” said SsangYong’s National Marketing Manager, Steve Maciver. “It demonstrates SsangYong Australia’s commitment to safety and our future product strategy.”
Available in two grades, ELX LE and Ultimate LE, from launch, both are powered by a 1.6-litre turbo-diesel four-cylinder engine producing 100kW @ 4000rpm and 324Nm @ 1500rpm. Engine stop-go technology and a 6-speed automatic transmission is also common to both variants of the Launch Edition, with the main drivetrain difference being the ELX LE is 2WD and the Ultimate LE is AWD.
The Ultimate LE also offers more ground clearance (182mm vs 164mm) but is heavier and slightly less economical (5.5lt/100km for the 2WD and 6.4lt/100km for the AWD).
Overall specification of both new Korando models is impressive for a vehicle in its size and price class, including a 10.25-inch colour LCD instrument display, a smart key, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, an 8-inch centre touchscreen, projector headlights, LED DRLs and tail lights, leather-trimmed steering wheel, privacy glass, heated and powered side mirrors, anti-theft alarm and an immobiliser. The Ultimate LE adds leather seats (powered, heated and cooled at the front), LED headlights and foglamps, dual zone climate control, power tailgate and a tyre pressure monitoring system. The Ultimate LE also upgrades the 18-inch alloys to 19-inch and adds a full-sized spare.
Drive away pricing of $32,990 for the Korando ELX LE and $39,990 for the Korando Ultimate LE is backed by SsangYong’s ‘777’ customer care package comprising a 7-year warranty, 7-year roadside assist package and 7-year service price menu.
