1992 Toyota Hilux Review
This month, Discount 4x4s of Coopers Plains, Queensland have a popular 2.8-litre diesel HiLux available, which has been made even more desirable for the working man with the addition of a hydraulic tipper to the tray. If you have a "Jim's Mowing" style small landscape gardening business, or something that requires you to carry loads of dirt, sand, gravel, or just about anything else, this addition will make your working life a hell of a lot easier!
The tipper conversion itself is first class and uses a strong single ram hydraulic system. Of course, the HiLux functions like any other cab chassis when not tipping, and has a solid floor and sides to handle regular loads. As this vehicle is a 1992 model year HiLux DX, it features the then-new 3L 2.8-litre SOHC four cylinder engine which produces 60kW at 4000rpm and 183Nm of torque at 2400 rpm.
This was one of the largest diesel engines in the one tonne utility class at the time. It was designed specifically for the HiLux range and was the most powerful naturally aspirated diesel in its category. It was designed for reliability, reduced noise and vibration, and increased power with good fuel economy. Our feature vehicle has 214,000kms on the clock, which for a diesel is just run in!
The 4x4 HiLux has a five-speed overdrive manual transmission, two speed transfer case, limited slip differential and power steering. The exterior is in very good condition, with no rust and straight panels. The tray and side toolboxes are also in top nick and have been sprayed in deep crimson paint to match the rest of the body. Suspension is factory-spec. Protecting the vehicle is an alloy bull bar, with brush rails and robust chequerplate sidesteps. There are also decent sized side mirrors for towing.
It rides on classic Sunraysia aftermarket rims with fat tyres, all of which still have good rubber. Inside, the cabin features air conditioning, AM/FM cassette radio and CB.There is some wear & tear in the cabin, but overall it's in fairly good condition. Vehicles in this sort of specialised configuration don't come up for sale often, especially in this condition.
So if you're after an older model Hilux for work or play at an affordable price, you should give this vehicle a closer look.
Priced at only $14,990, it won't be available for long, so get on the phone to Discount 4x4s ASAP on (07) 3274 1001 to find out more about this month's great buy.
