1,000hp tank to star at Melbourne 4x4 Show
Using a 6-tonne WWII Stuart Army tank as the base, Xuereb has added a heavily-modified V8 engine that can reportedly pump out more than 1,000 horsepower and propel the tracked vehicle to 100 kph. According to Xuereb, what's more amazing than the tank's appearance and performance is its sound, a raspy Monster Truck growl, which shakes the tank in its tracks.
"I love motor vehicles and I'm a bit of a mad scientist when it comes to creating new and unusual things," explained Xuereb.
"The (tank) took about 2 years to build and it's a work in progress - as you can imagine it's not easy to source the parts! It uses the running gear from a World War II tank but the engine is what gives it the punch."
While Xuereb's tank won't reach its top speed at the Melbourne event, it will still impress crowds as it tackles the Action Arena's custom built dirt mounds. Xuereb will bring a range of vehicles to the show, including his world-famous "Devil's Taxi" Monster Truck.
His son Michael shares his passion, and is in the process of having a world record verified after jumping his Polaris Razr ATV over 96 feet in the air, some 40 feet clear of the record held by action sports star Travis Pastrana.
The Xuereb father and son team are just one of the array of features confirmed for the 4x4 Action Arena at the National 4x4 & Outdoors Show on August 24-26.
The TJM Austruck Extreme 4x4 Competition will pit the best 4x4 drivers in a battle against the clock as they tackle a challenging obstacle course on the Action Arena. The crowd-favourite DPChip Extreme Show will also make its return, promising plenty of thrills and spills. Trophykart, ATV and buggy demos and 4WD test rides will also take place, and visitors can climb aboard an actual Monster Truck, Aussie BlackJack, for a ride around the venue.
Plenty of arena-side seating will accommodate visitors, while the XXXX Gold Container Bar and Beer Garden is sure to be popular should those visitors develop a thirst exploring the show.
