Navara N-Trek Warrior released
Aimed at the likes of HSV’s Colorado SportsCat, the Ford Ranger Raptor and Toyota Hilux RuggedX, the N-Trek Warrior was developed in partnership with Victorian product development and engineering consultancy firm Premcar.
“The Nissan Navara N-TREK Warrior has been designed, re-engineered and tested in Australia for Australian conditions and Australian drivers,” said Stephen Lester, managing director of Nissan Australia.
“By leveraging local engineering expertise, adding fully-homologated and durability-tested components, customers can be assured that the N-Trek Warrior package will only enhance the Navara driving experience.”
Toughened Up
Compared to the Navara N-Trek on which it’s based, the N-Trek Warrior raises the ride height by 40mm – off-road-specific springs and dampers add 15mm, with the additional 25mm coming from 32.2-inch Cooper Discoverer AT3 All-Terrain 275/70 tyres.
The suspension/tyre package also raises ground clearance to 268mm, widens track to 1600mm and increases approach angle to 35 degrees. Departure and breakover angles are 19 and 27.5 degrees.
The new suspension components include springs with a softer primary rate but more progressive secondary rate, with shocks upgraded to provide added compression damping on top of the piston for quicker response. Other suspension changes have been made to improve off-road capability, with an electronic rear diff lock, Hill Start Assist and Hill Descent Control all standard.
The suspension upgrades and increased ride height have no impact on towing capacity, which remains at 3500kg (braked), but payload is reduced, from 923kg (manual trans) to 730kg.
The Warrior drivetrain – a 2.3-litre twin-turbo diesel and six-speed manual or seven-speed auto driving all four wheels – is unchanged from the standard Navara, as is its output of 140kW and 450Nm.
The braking package of ventilated front discs and rear drums is also unchanged from the N-Trek dual cab on which the Warrior is based.
Special Features
The range of locally-developed and fitted parts that transform a Navara into a Warrior include a body-colour hoopless steel bullbar with integrated 470mm light bar, a 3mm stainless steel front skid plate and 17-inch alloy wheels.
A unique towbar crossmember was also developed, primarily to accommodate the increased ride height but also to allow the fitment of a full-size spare wheel with the larger Cooper tyre.
Unique cosmetic touches include dark orange foglamp bezels, identifying ‘Warrior’ decals on the flanks and a large ‘Navara’ tailgate decal.
Items carried over from the Navara N-Trek include black wheelarch flares, sports bar, grille insert, door handles and roof rails, as well as the black side steps and mirror caps with dark orange accents.
Inside, leather-accented seats from the Navara N-Trek get identifying Warrior stitching on front seat headrests, with dark orange floormats and some plastic trim also unique to the Warrior. Other interior features, like the heated front seats, dual zone climate control air con, push-button starting, Advanced Drive-Assist Display, Apple Car Play/Android Auto compatibility, Bluetooth and 6-speaker sound system, are unchanged from the N-Trek.
Standard Safety
While it lacks some of the tech of its rivals, the Warrior is still well equipped on the safety front, with a 360-degree monitor, ABS, EBD, Brake Assist, Active Brake Limited Slip, Vehicle Dynamic Control, Traction Control and a comprehensive airbag suite, including full-length curtain airbags.
Other features include LED headlights and indicators, three 12V sockets inside, a 12V outlet in the ute tub, sliding rear window, front tow hook and Nissan’s Anti-Theft System immobiliser.
