Toyota 70 Series trayback gains V8 turbo-diesel
Toyota chose the Brisbane Motor Show to debut the re-styled and updated LandCruiser 70 Series cab-chassis. The 4.5-litre V8 turbo-diesel replaces the previous 4.2-litre turbo and non turbo-diesel six-cylinder engines.Output is 151kW at 3400rpm and 403Nm between 1200-3200rpm, 30kW and 50Nm more than the previous turbo diesel. The new turbo-diesel V8 engine produces outstanding horsepower combined with a strong, flat torque curve. The new engine complies with stringent Euro IV tailpipe emission standards introduced for diesel engines from 1st January. To accommodate the larger engine, the 70 Series has been restyled with new front suspension and a wider track. It has been thoroughly revised ahead of the A-pillar, including new sheet metal. Specification has been upgraded across the range.
Toyota Australia's executive director sales and marketing Alan Porich, speaking at the unveiling, said the power, economy and technology of the new V8 turbo-diesel engine will add a new dimension to the LandCruiser 70 Series. "The new V8 turbo-diesel engine and other improvements will enhance the performance, strength and legendary go-anywhere ability of the LandCruiser 70 Series," Mr Porich said. "The improved styling, which adds to the rugged looks of the 70 Series, will offer greater visual appeal for customers." A four-door wagon model will be added to the range, with a rear barn door. The new LandCruiser 200 Series - the replacement for the current 100 Series - will gain a twin-turbo version of the V8 diesel, that is tipped to produce more than 200kW and 650Nm of torque. It will be matched to a six-speed automatic transmission and numerous traction equipment.
The new 70 Series range will go on sale in late March.
