Nissan to expand Warrior programme
The success of the Nissan Navara PRO-4X Warrior, which was jointly developed by Nissan and Premcar, has led to an expansion of the programme for Australia.
Nissan confirmed on 10 May that the local market’s response to both the Navara PRO-4X Warrior and its predecessor, the Navara N-Trek Warrior, will see a new variant introduced – the Navara SL Warrior by Premcar.
Since it was revealed in July, 2021, more than 1,000 units of the Navara PRO-4X Warrior - across two generations - have been re-engineered by Premcar at their Epping facility.
“With the Navara SL Warrior by Premcar, a new and more accessible entry point will join the Warrior family, ensuring even more customers can experience the world’s toughest Navara for themselves,” said Nissan Australia Managing Director, Adam Paterson.
While details on the Navara SL Warrior have yet to be revealed, Nissan says it is based on the current SL Navara, but with a more aggressive exterior treatment, as well as a broad range of on- and off-road capability – all at a more affordable price than the Navara PRO-4X Warrior.
With the SL Navara currently available in king cab and dual cab ute forms, it’s unclear whether the Warrior will be available on both body styles, but it’s assumed it won’t be offered on the SL single cab chassis or SL dual cab chassis.
Local testing, tuning and validation of the Navara SL Warrior has already been completed, but no release date for the new model variant has been set, with Nissan saying more information will be revealed closer to local launch.
In addition to the Navara SL Warrior, a Patrol Warrior is under consideration for addition to the range, with a concept currently being evaluated that carries a series of “enhancements” over the standard Patrol.
“The Nissan Patrol is also currently under study by Premcar to further broaden its capability, both on and off the road,” Paterson added.
