Mitsubishi updates Triton for 2020
Mitsubishi have released details of the 2020 version of their Triton ute. There are no major changes from the current version, but selected mid-tier model grades will see an increase in standard specification and there’s also a limited-edition model being added to the range.
“We’re making changes to our functionality to be able to deliver Australian customers what they’re looking for,” said Mitsubishi Motors Deputy Director for Marketing and Operation, Derek McIlroy.
“Australia is a key market for Triton development, and we’re consistently listening to ute buyers and looking for new ways to add the features they want to our line-up.”
The range structure of GLX, GLX+, GLS and GLS Premium remains, with list pricing from $22,490 to $52,490.

The key changes are as follows:
- A rear diff lock is now available on GLX+ and GLS variants (previously reserved for GLS Premium)
- Easy-Select 4WD system added to GLX+ club cab and dual cab
- GLS and GLS Premium variants equipped with Super-Select-II offer 2H (rear-wheel drive), 4H (full-time 4WD), 4HLc (locking diff) and 4LLc (locking low gear) modes
- 18-inch wheels on 4WD models for improved ground clearance (220 mm) and improved approach (31°), departure (23°) and break over (25°) angles.
For improved comfort and convenience, 2020 Triton GLX+ dual cab variants add a rear air circulator, while the Triton GLS (which is only available as a dual cab pickup) gains keyless operation, with a smart key and one-touch starting.
Mitsubishi says these convenience updates, previously limited to the GLS Premium, were added in response to customer feedback.
The MY20 Triton range is unaltered mechanically, with a 2.4-litre petrol engine only available on the entry-level GLX 4x2 single cab. The 2.4-litre MiVEC intercooled turbo diesel is the only engine offering for the rest of the range, although most model grades are available with a choice of manual or automatic transmissions.
Similarly, four-wheel drive systems are unchanged for 2020, with either the Super Select-II or Easy Select 4WD systems fitted, depending on model grade.

Triton ‘Toby Price Edition’ released
Toby Price, Australia’s two-time Dakar Rally champion, 2018 Cross-Country Rallies World Champion and Mitsubishi ambassador, has been recognised with a special edition Triton bearing his name.
The ‘Toby Price Edition’ Triton is based on the GLS 4x4 dual cab, with defining features including a black nudge bar with integrated LED light bar, black bonnet protector, slimline weathershields and a stainless-steel sports bar finished in black. On the tub are identifying decals that use the off-road motorcycle champ’s ‘TP’ logo.
Standard GLS dual cab features fitted to the Toby Price Edition include a soft tonneau, cargo tie-down points, tub liner and rubber floor mats.
Offered in three colours – Sunflare Orange, White Diamond and Graphite Grey - the Toby Price Edition Triton will be limited to 500 units, each provided with a numbered certificate of authenticity.
The standard Triton GLS drivetrain of a 2.4-litre intercooled turbo diesel is unchanged, but there is the option of a 6-speed manual or 6-speed auto transmission, the latter with manual mode and paddle shifters.
The Super Select-II 4WD system with selectable Off-Road modes is standard, as is the MiTEC driver-assistance and safety package of Hill Descent Control, Trailer Stability Assist, Forward Collision Mitigation with pedestrian detection, Blind Spot Warning, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Lane Departure Warning, Lane Departure Assist and Auto High Beam headlights.
Given Price’s motorcycle connections, a single-cab Triton may have been a more appropriate base for the special edition, as it can carry dirt bikes more easily than a dual cab, but the volume in the Australian ute market is in the dual cab style.
Priced from $48,140 for the manual version ($50,640 for the auto), the Toby Price Edition is a $3,000 premium over the GLS model on which it’s based.
