LandCruiser Altitude is back
Based on the LandCruiser GXL, the Altitude follows on from the recent reintroduction of a similar upgrade pack on the Kluger, and is now available at Toyota dealerships nationally. Last year, the Altitude upgrade offered $4,000 of extras; this time around, the value is claimed by Toyota to be $5,000.
The Altitude LandCruiser adds premium paint (metallic or pearlescent), 18-inch five-spoke alloys and a range of luxury interior appointments normally reserved for the 200 VX and Sahara model LandCruisers.
Interior upgrades on the eight-seat special-edition wagon include power-operated (slide, recline, height and cushion tilt) driver and front-passenger seats, black leather-accented trim and a premium steering wheel and gearshift knob. The driver's seat also has power lumbar adjustment, while a cooler box is added to the centre console.
The $92,165* LandCruiser 200 Altitude is available in five exterior colours - Crystal Pearl and Eclipse Black (both previously reserved for VX and Sahara), Silver Pearl, Graphite and Shimmer - the same colour options offered on the Altitude pack last year.
There's only one powerplant choice for the Altitude - Toyota's twin-turbo V8 common-rail diesel, mated to an electronically controlled six-speed automatic. The 195kW, 650Nm V8 achieves fuel economy of just 10.3 litres/100km** for a theoretical range of more than 1,300km from its 93-litre main and 45-litre sub tanks.
This latest version of the Altitude also incorporates recent updates to the LandCruiser GXL, such as trailer sway control - designed to assist if a towed vehicle becomes unsettled by crosswinds, bumpy roads or sharp turns of the steering wheel. Braked towing capacity is 3.5 tonnes***.
All LandCruiser 200 series models carry a five-star ANCAP safety rating, with the Altitude boasting eight airbags as well as vehicle stability and active traction control, plus a reversing camera and satellite navigation system with 6.1-inch LCD screen.
Like all LandCruisers, the special-edition model is fitted with a Multi-Terrain ABS^ that adapts to driving conditions (including sand, mud and gravel) by detecting engine output, acceleration and wheel speed. It also features Toyota's off-road cruise-control system, CRAWL^, which has five low-speed settings and disengages at speeds over 25km/h.
CRAWL automatically controls the engine output and brake hydraulic pressure to maintain a low uniform vehicle speed with minimal wheel spin or lock-up, allowing the driver to concentrate fully on steering.
It is covered by Toyota Service Advantage with services capped at $210^^ for each of up to six standard scheduled services.
Last year, LandCruiser 200 series wagon jumped 31 per cent to 8,089 registrations. This year, sales have risen further - up more than 13.1 per cent to 3,776 units, which Toyota no doubt hope will be boosted by further sales of the relaunched LandCruiser 200 Altitude.
