2011 Jeep Wrangler Model Review
In a first for the Wrangler, heated, power mirrors are standard, audio and cruise controls are located on the steering wheel and there is improved vision with larger rear window.
Wrangler retains the option of a 3.8-litre V6 petrol engine, or an upgraded 2.8-litre CRD turbo diesel, which gains an additional 17kW of power and choice of 4-speed auto or 6-speed manual transmission. Diesel manual models also receive Start-Stop technology, which shuts down the engine when the vehicle is in neutral and the clutch released, then restarts when the clutch is depressed, for enhanced fuel economy.
Wrangler Rubicon remains the leading 'off the shelf' hardcore 4x4 and comes equipped with standard remote locking differentials with heavy duty Dana 44 solid axles front and rear, electronically controlled swaybar disconnect, tough Rock-trac transfer case, 4.10:1 axle ratio, heavy duty rock rails, Freedom top and other interior upgrades.
Wrangler two-door Sport (manual petrol) is priced from $32,000, while the four-door Unlimited starts at $36,000. The Wrangler Rubicon 2-door starts at $42,000, and the Unlimited Rubicon at $46,000. It is only available with 3.8-litre petrol engine; 4-speed auto transmission is available for an extra $2000 on petrol models and 5-speed auto turbo-diesel models are priced at $39,000 (Wrangler Sport) and $43,000 for the Unlimited Sport.
Options include the Renegade Pack ($2500) and the navigation media centre at $2650. Front seat mounted airbags are a $450 option.
