Seller's Description
Summary:
When you buy this vehicle, you’re not just buying a car, you’re buying a lifestyle.
It’s the perfect combination of large, safe family car (with roomy backseat and airbags), work ute (tray) and recreational vehicle (towing). Drive it to work and on the weekends pack up the family and hit the road with the van or boat.
Not only does it have all the great standard features, the comfort and reliability of the original 100 series, but it also has awesome modifications with the option of further customisation (aluminium toolboxes installed under the tray, winch, driving lights, canopy – just imagine the possibilities). Perfect for that round Australia family holiday with the 3000+kg towing capacity and long-range fuel tanks.
Price and equipment:
In addition to standard features, modifications include extension and fitting of tray to the chassis, bullbar, alloy side steps and 16” alloy wheels.
Standard features include: dual fuel tanks, central locking remote control, CD player, AC, power windows, anti lock brakes, dual airbags etc.
Standard 100 series wagons are heavily depreciated to $24,000 to $39,000 which is highly influenced by diesel prices. This vehicle can’t be lumped into this category due to the significant improvements. It should be considered a $20,000+ car with a $15,000 modification. It has only travelled around 37,500Km a year, so clearly it is a cheap vehicle for the enhancements and modifications.
Under the bonnet & how it drives:
The 4.2l diesel auto is ideal for carrying load and towing on a regular basis. There’s an overdrive for situations where you need a little pick-me-up and it cruises extremely well on the freeway, sitting effortlessly on 110km. It easily meets all expectations for the manoeuvreability and handling of a large family car and rugged 4X4.
Comfort and practicality:
This vehicle is the ultimate lifestyle vehicle. In terms of comfort, the main selling point is the smooth ride coupled with the generous seating. Seats in both the front and back are designed to accommodate full-grown adults with long legs. The finishing is comfortably padded and lumbar supports are in the right place. Perfect for transporting workers or a growing family for short or long hauls.
As a work or recreational vehicle, the 4X4 capability is enhanced by the expertly engineered modification. Pairing the luxury of 5 comfortable seats with great load/towing capacity of a tray is so sensible you wonder why the factory didn’t make them that way in the first place. The tray is suitable for carrying substantial load and is the maximum length possible in order for the car to have a standard rather than a commercial vehicle registration.
Safety and security:
For it’s time, the 100 series came with a greater range of standard safety features than it’s predecessors. This included design features (e.g. roll frame), anti-lock brakes and air bags. The modifications to the vehicle also provide additional safety with a large bullbar, sidesteps and strengthening to the chassis when the modification was engineered. Likewise, the ignition system was more secure and included remote central locking. Added bonus: this vehicle comes with TWO SETS of keys with working central locking remotes.
Servicing and running costs:
We have serviced this car a number of times and the cost has never exceeded expectations. It recently underwent a roadworthy, VASS and VIV process (inspections for repairable write-off/modified vehicles) in order for it to be registered in the state of Victoria and we found all costs to be reasonable.
This vehicle has 145L dual long-range fuel tanks, so it’s easy to calculate that filling the main and sub tanks from empty is daunting. But anyone who has fuelled large 4WDs won’t be shocked, as it’s pretty standard. Recently we ran the car all day under both HWY and city conditions and only filled the main tank once. Added bonuses: new radiator, water pump, fan, lenses, and some other minor parts that were replaced for the roadworthy.
This is a dream car. They don’t come along very often. Don’t dream about the lifestyle – own it.
